Anhedonia: The inability to gain pleasure
from normaly pleasurable experiences.
ASOs: AIDS Service Organization.
CD4: Another name for a "helper"
T-cell.
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT):
A process where the individual uses awareness of their behaviour
to produce change.
CSWs: Community Support Worker.
Interpersonal Therapy (IPT): A short-term
psychotherapy that focuses on improving interpersonal relationships
and communication skills.
Pathologizing: To view or characterize
as medically or psychologically abnormal.
Pharmacotherapy: The treatment of disease
with medicine.
PHAs: People Living with HIV/AIDS.
Psychoeducation: The education of a person
in subject areas that serve the goals of treatment and rehabilitation.
Psychometrists: A person who has received
training in psychology or a related field with an emphasis on
tests and measurements.
Psychosocial: Looking at the emotional
and environmental aspects of a problem.
Psychotherapy: A process in which a patient
talks with a psychiatrist, psychologist, social worker or licensed
counselor about a mental health condition. The treatment of mental
and emotional disorders using psychological methods, such as counseling.
Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors (SSRIs):
Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors and tricyclic antidepressants
are different classes of antidepressants used mainly to treat
clinical depression.
Stigma: Defined in the dictionary as
"a mark of shame or discredit". Stigma exists when a
person is distinguished by differences and "identified by
a label that sets them apart and links them to undesirable stereotypes
that result in unfair treatment and discrimination."
Tricyclic Antidepressants (TCAs) : Selective
serotonin reuptake inhibitors and tricyclic antidepressants are
different classes of antidepressants used mainly to treat clinical
depression.
