The
Ontario AIDS Network is a province-wide coalition of diverse community-based
organizations working together to establish a just and effective
response to AIDS and dedicated to enhancing the quality of life
of persons living with HIV/AIDS in Ontario.
The
Ontario AIDS Network is the provincial association of over 50
HIV/AIDS service organizations (ASOs) across the province. These
ASOs are crucial to Ontario's HIV/AIDS education, prevention care
and support efforts. In addition, the network has an active caucus
of approximately 350 people with HIV/AIDS (PHAs) involved in its
governance and activities.
As
the provincial organization representing the collective voice
of community based AIDS service organizations and our participating
PHAs, our mandate is to strengthen and support the members by
providing education, skills and capacity building, semi-annual
conferences and facilitating community-based research.
We
also work on social justice issues that affect the lives of people
who have HIV/AIDS. We advocate on their behalf for sustainable
government funding, access to state-of- the- art treatment and
support for all PHA's and appropriate public policy and legislation
in response to the HIV/AIDS epidemic. Much of this Health and
Social Policy development work is relevant to and benefits all
disease and disability groups and the public at large.
